Is it Really Your Body?

Your body is a sophisticated bio-computer lab. By learning to listen to your body and developing an understanding of what foods it needs and when it needs them, you will discover what is best for you.

Just as a tree will bend towards the light, humans and animals know instinctively how and where to get food that is best for them. Animals don’t read nutrition books. Their bodies tell them which plants to eat and which to avoid, or if they’re predators, which animals to kill when they’re hungry. They heal themselves when they are sick. Usually by resting a lot and eating very little until the sickness passes.

We have the same instincts, but many of us ignore the messages our bodies are constantly sending. Dark circles under the eyes signal exhaustion-your body is telling you to slow down and get some rest. Constipation and bloating are signs that something you are eating, or the way you are eating it, is not appropriate. We ignore these messages until they become unbearable, and that’s when we go to the doctor for medications and operations. Give yourself time to explore the laboratory of your body and you will be surprised by its responsiveness, sophistication and intelligence. We as a general rule ignore and or abuse our bodies as though they are a necessary evil. They are like a dead chicken around the neck only to be tolerated and to have taken advantage. We are like children who are given an expensive toy at Christmas which is totally beyond our age level of understanding and enjoyment. Instead of being trained to grow into a proper understanding we become abusive and greedy in our desire to gain the things of this world at the expense of the only “home” we will ever know on this planet. Not knowing our designed parameters we live as though there are none. We push and stress our bodies beyond their limits knowing full well that this path lead to destruction. The intoxicating bright lights and enticing activities of this world are like the mythical sirens calling out and luring sailors to their destruction. Hosea 4:6 says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…”The knowledge is available but not sought after. The rest of the verse gives reason for this lack. “….Because you have rejected knowledge….” Due to idolatry we have usurped God’s instruction for our own instructions. We have become a god of our own making, building design parameters for our own existence. The Bible states in Proverbs 14:12, “There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.”

How can we escape this inevitable destruction?

Jesus said it very plainly in Matthew 22:37, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

What does this look like?

  Proverbs 3: 1-6

 “My son, do not forget my law,

But let your heart keep my commands;

2 For length of days and long life

And peace they will add to you.

3 Let not mercy and truth forsake you;

Bind them around your neck,

Write them on the tablet of your heart,

4 And so find favor and high esteem

In the sight of God and man.

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart,

And lean not on your own understanding;

6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,

And He shall direct your paths.”

Psalm's 37:23 “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way.

24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down;

For the Lord upholds him with His hand.”

The bottom line is that we involve ourselves in an intimate relationship with God as our Lord and Savior. Acts 17:28, “…for in Him we live and move and have our being…”

John wrote in chapter 1:1-3, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.”

Paul states in 1 Corinthians 6:20, “For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.” That price was Jesus giving His life as payment which was the judgment required for your sins so that your salvation may be secured. John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

So the question remains, Who is Lord of your life?

Deuteronomy 30:19 “I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;”
